ABOUT

I have had many, many dogs over the years. All were pretty well trained and behaved until Whizzer.

Whizzer was a Basenji mix and very disinterested in pleasing her owner and was so dog aggressive that even taking for a walk was an ordeal. She and I got thrown out of doggie park, she attacked two dogs and was almost delegated to the bad dog status which would have required euthanasia.

While trying to train her I had the misfortune of experiencing many different philosphies on training. I noticed that there was quite a number of disparities between methods and as a result none worked until I found a trainer who practiced a practical method of training which was postive reinforcement and with conditioning.

As a result I attended Animal Behavior College's training program and follow their philosophy of positive and negative reinforcement without punishment of any type and focused on reward and praise (positive reinforcement) and withholding of reward and praise when behavior is not wanted (negative reinforcement).

I have the background of being a visiting/home health nurse for 32 years and modeled this business concept after that.  I generally do not do group lessons, though it is an option if the need should arise. I find it easier to get the clients (human and canine) to focus on the lesson and achieve the goal with less distractions as the group lessons can be.

Individual in home lessons are more specific to the needs of the client, not just doing basic obedience, although basic obedience is something to cover before dealing with more specific problems such as barking, chewing and etc.

My philosophy is that there is no "bad dog" just a "good dog waiting to be unleashed!"
